[NEWS] The Monday Spew (2nd December 2013)

It’s time for The Monday Spew! You’re getting the weekly spewage today instead of the regular Sunday. I hope you don’t mind. I would have done it when I was supposed to but once 6pm hit I found myself unable to contemplate anything other than the work I had to do for the next day. Unfortunately it has been a slow one for geek news folks, but like mama always said, you got to work with what you got.

The PS4 got its EUROPEAN RELEASE LAST FRIDAY. I’ve nothing to report on that front really because I haven’t laid eyes on it yet.

OH MY DARLIN’ – Telltale Games promises again of Clementine’s return, along with another recognisable survivor from The Walking Dead Game Season 1. With a very vague “release” date of “sometime in December”, I’m going to choose to believe them and be positive that it won’t suffer delays similar to the first season and visualise myself gleefully playing it over the Christmas holidays.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD – In more awesome game news that makes me squee, JohnHeatz.com reports of rumours concerning a new open-world Star Wars game coming to us from a galaxy far, far away sometime next year. Coupling this with the news that Telltale Games are set to make a Game of Thrones interactive adventure story makes me an extremely happy lady.

In movie news, various sequels are on the horizon. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is set to be released on the 18th April 2014, with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone returning, and Included this time around will be the Osborns, Rhino and Electro. Thoughts? Also, rumour has it that there’s a BAD SANTA 2 in the works and Billy Bob is on board. This news pleases me as I loved Bad Santa. I hope that pudgy kid comes back to fix more sandwiches. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR has been lined up for an August release, with plans for a Sin City TV series likely to follow. And bringing up the rear in the movie segment of this news portion is WARCRAFT, which has been given an official release date of 18th December 2015. In a startling move it has been pitted head to head against Star Wars. I was initially apprehensive about this news, as I felt that on the battlefield the Millennium Falcon would just pew-pew away all of those pesky Paladins and Priests like the bantha fodder they are, but then I remembered there are a lot of WoW fanfolk out there who might enjoy a once a year excursion into the outside world, and so I predict this movie will still do quite well.

And finally, with the passing of THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS STAR, PAUL WALKER  blowing up our social media late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, I would like to take this opportunity to express the sadness I felt at such a tragic and futile loss. Lovely tributes began to pour from fans and friends alike, all applauding the kind-hearted and hardworking individual that he was. The world will miss his easy charm and generosity.

An improvement was observed this week as last week’s tally of zilch reviews has been upped by one. I absconded from work and sneakily caught The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in a nearby theatre. I managed to review it too, which you can read here in its spoiler-free format.

This week has really been all about what I’ve been reading. Phil from 1001-Up.com addresses a few issues with the PlayStation Playroom streaming, and discussions on how to handle and combat the potentially damaging content follow in the comments. Kevin from The Mental Attic takes a new series offering and tells us why exactly we should be tuning in to Almost Human. Sir Isaacs of IPC, the movie review master who watches the worst of the worst so we won’t have to, writes about Contracted, a disgusting “horror” film about zombie STDs and generates some rather hilarious responses from the community.

A special thanks and shout-out this week to Cary from Recollections of Play for the Versatile and Sunshine Award nominations, and to JohnHeatz, the lads over at 1001-Up, James from Nostalgia and Gaming, Kieran The Chronic Chronicler, Pewie from The PewPew Diaries for the Sunshine Award recognition, and last but by no means least to Drakulus, how just today bestowed upon me the WordPress Family Award. Some serious love to you guys, I’m an avid reader of all of your blogs and I’m continually humbled by everyone’s support. And I swear, on my Pictures of Pugs in Costumes Collection, that I will complete an awards post this week.

Well it’s officially December now, and I’m officially allowing Christmas chat here on the Spew. I have a few Christmas-related posts planned for this month, as I’m a huge fan of the holiday season and good will in general. I’ll be writing about my favourite Christmas tunes, movies and have something special planned for the Spew’s six month anniversary, which is coming up soon. It’s time to embrace the synthesized Jingle Bells blasting through shop speakers (November is too early for Christmas songs, what’s wrong with you people?), exclaim over the touching and beautifully put together Christmas advertisements (I’d been ignoring them steadfastly up until yesterday), plan the decorations and prepare myself to hand over a month’s worth of wages to make all of those Christmas present purchases. Oh and the parties, let’s not forget those.

Have you anything to add? Tell me your news below!

As is tradition now, here’s a pugly picture. I give you the Pugs of Middle Earth.

Puggits.

Puggits.

  3. I’m so glad that we’re going to get a chance to see Clementine again. I’ve really been worried about that little girl! Can we expect another blow by blow account of your travels through the game?

Did you ever notice that pugs look a lot like really small Klingons?

    As always, a GREAT post!

    • Oh how I have missed my Clementine. I’m on tenterhooks waiting to find out what became of her. I will be doing a narrative, for certain, although whether it will be here or over at JohnHeatz I’m not yet sure!

Pugs bemuse me something rotten, JF. I mean, they’re such ugly dogs. But yet so hilariously adorable? How can this be? Cute Klingons, is this possible?

  7. My imagination is running with the possibilities of a Telltale Game of Thrones game. I heard somewhere that the movie title Sin City A Dame to Kill For wasn’t politically correct so they retitled it to A Dame to Die For. ?!?

  9. Great wrap V. Word is the current releases could be the last of the game consoles with all gaming online in five years (?). Your movie-mentions are really teasing given that it takes months to release them in Australia and by then we’re heard every spoiler, praise and grumble…bah. Good read here, thanks.

    • Cheers Mike! Yeah the natural progression of gaming definitely seems to be heading in that direction. I’m sort of conflicted about it actually.

It must drive you nuts getting everything so much later in Australia. The people need more worldwide release dates!

  10. No… I have nothing to add… oh, maybe I do… my mad family have already put up the tree…
I got news at work that I may be forced to take TWO week’s off over the period. As they say in the classics of free enterprise… no work.. NO PAY!!
Christmas… why has it become such a hype?? And for all the WRONG reasons… ok, I’ll go before this turns into the Tuesday spew… ;-)
    Have fun… be good! :-P

    • ALREADY!? Gah. We don’t decorate until the 16th. It’s a tradition I like because looking at the decorations for too long seriously makes the novelty wear thin. For me anyway, I know some people who’d have them up all year round if they could!

Crappy news about work. What an awful time to “force” a holiday on you too.

  14. I heard Bad Santa 2 was delayed yet again so I’m not gonna hold my breath for that one. I’m sorta scared of a sequel…though I suppose he should be out of jail by now LOL. It’s on my annual Christmas Eve Watch List, which I guess I should do a post about soon. :)

    • I wasn’t sure myself because it’s a classic Christmas comedy for me and I didn’t want it ruined, but I’m sure it would still be better than most of what we’ve been getting lately! Looking forward to your Christmas Eve Watch List.
